Prayers for the Feast of St. Hilary

Gospel: Mark 1:14-20

After John had been arrested,
Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God:
“This is the time of fulfillment.
The Kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”

As he passed by the Sea of Galilee,
he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea;
they were fishermen.
Jesus said to them,
“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Then they left their nets and followed him.
He walked along a little farther
and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.
They too were in a boat mending their nets.
Then he called them.
So they left their father Zebedee in the boat

along with the hired men and followed him.

Prayers:

Lord our God, help us to love you with all our hearts and to love all men as you love them. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Father in heaven, from the days of Abraham and Moses until this gathering of your Church in prayer, you have formed a people in the image of your Son.  Bless this people with the gift of your kingdom.  May we serve you with our every desire and show love for one another even as you have loved us.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.

Father, watch over your family and keep us safe in your care, for all our hope is in you.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

All-powerful and everlasting God,
as Saint Hilary defended the divinity
of Christ your Son,
give us a deeper understanding
of this mystery and help us
to profess it in all truth.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
